Creative Polymer Clay

Art direction, cover and concept design.

The physical items designed by the author were so tactile and colourful that there was no need to prop and overcomplicate the images.

I selected solid colour backgrounds to tone with or contrast with the project items, creating separation from the stark white instructional content. The instructional images were photographed against white. This created a clear divide between beauty shots and instructions, retaining simplicity while allowing the content to shine. I devised a clean, limited font palette and a strong grid for continuity.

The cover brief was to display multiple projects. Because of the individual complexity and mixture of colours, I opted for a clean white background, in contrast with the beauty shots of the individual items inside the book. Clean, simple typography provides a contrast with the maximalist mix of patterns and shapes below.
