Book Design
For the last 12 years, the core of my work has been publishing design. I managed a team of designers, working on book layouts, concepts and cover designs.
My main experience in publishing is in special interest books such as arts and crafts, where the content is complex and very visual. This means I spend time thinking about the typographic tone and visual blueprint for the books I design, similar to creating a brand.
I worked with a team of external creative directors, designers, and illustrators, integrating the resulting assets with the titles I designed. I also worked directly on photography styling and art direction, gaining hands-on experience.
I therefore have a holistic approach to creating a book. I can provide individual services, or the whole creative package, as required. I also love to work in a consultative fashion and would be comfortable working with an in-house team, providing insight and suggestions, where a fresh perspective might be needed.
Website Consultation
I can provide a package of elements suitable for use in by a web designer, but for a spectacular site, where design and functionality mesh seamlessly for the best user experience, an integrated design approach is advisable.
During the design of a website for a new brand, specific new formats and styles of elements are often needed, which were not considered in the original brief. This is because the site layout and content were unknown at the point the brand was created. That's where I come in!
I will liaise with your website designer to provide the elements they require to build your site. I will also provide guidance and creative direction, where sought, regarding the best application of the brand elements to the website pages, including getting hands-on with page mockups or working in the front end of the website as needed.
Advertising Design
Taking out space in a magazine or affiliate marketing space online? I can help you coordinate your branding and message to get the best impact for your advertising spend. There are so many considerations depending on the audience, position, size and shape, just for a start. It can add up to be a real headache without experience. I will ask questions, get an understanding of your aims with the campaign, coordinate with your marketing professionals and any other individuals involved, and produce something which gets you noticed.
Brochures and printed material
I have worked in print design for over 20 (gulp!) years. I understand the printing process inside out and know how to present information in a clear and eye-catching way. Getting the balance with typography on a page of text and images, advising on special finishes to elevate the user experience of your printed collateral; these are the sort of things that excite me! I will bring my skills and expertise to bear and create a quality look and feel to win the trust of your clients.
